DOT
The US Department of Transportation (DOT) is charged with ensuring a transportation system that meets the mobility needs of the nation’s businesses and citizens, protects national interests, enables security and enhances the quality of life for the American people. DOT oversees an extensive network of infrastructure activities ranging from the country’s Interstate highways and seaports to airports, railroads, bridges and tunnels.
To ensure public safety, the DOT regulates and strictly enforces the commercial transportation of materials it has determined to pose an unreasonable risk to health, safety and property when transported by railcar, aircraft, pipeline, vessel or motor vehicle. DOT requires specialized training for all personnel involved in the commercial transportation of designated hazardous materials (HAZMAT). UL’s HAZMAT curricula support the full range of training needs for the transport and management of hazardous materials including packaging, shipping and security. Users learn how to identify the nine classes of hazardous materials, who is regulated, which DOT regulations apply and how to use the North American Emergency Response Guidebook. In addition, the program addresses employee drug and alcohol awareness.
