Training External Contractors

Problem:

To comply with strict environmental regulations, a multinational petroleum company committed to facility-wide training for its 1,900 onsite employees and 5,000 subcontractors. The company demanded accurate, defensible documentation of all training activities for regulatory, management and industry requirements.

Solution:

A series of custom-learning programs and courses was developed for topics including energy source hazard recognition, permit-specific requirements and defensive driving. Training was distributed to all employees and subcontractors by job function or job location. A test followed each course to assure comprehension. Completed coursework records are uploaded to a contractor/supplier database to comply with government and operator-specific recordkeeping requirements and for use by contracting agencies in procurement activities.

Results:
  • Trained 5,000 external contractors
  • Met all state training requirements for EH&S
  • Consistent proficiency across workforce including employees and subcontractors
  • Reinforced corporate commitment to safety, compliance and integrity
