Professional Licensing
The architecture, engineering and construction professions are regulated by licensing boards—composed of PEs and members of the public—in each US state and territory. The licensing boards set high standards for professional engineers, and these high standards help protect the public health, safety and welfare. So, engineers must be licensed to offer their services to the public.
The requirements for professional licensing vary by discipline and state. Additionally, certain states provide reciprocity — in which licensure from one state is accepted in another. There are generally requirements for obtaining the license as well as continuing education for renewing the individual license. Most states allow the use of online learning for continuing education.
UL provides a range of educational tools for AEC licensing. We provide preparation and study materials in advance of licensure exams and an online library of continuing education courses. That library contains 50 individual course topics, representing more than 100 hours.
